Cultural Diversity

As a counselor-in-training, I honor cultural diversity by approaching clients with humility, curiosity, and respect for their lived experiences. I recognize that identity is shaped by culture, race, ethnicity, spirituality, gender, socioeconomic status, family systems, trauma history, and access to resources. Clinically, I strive to create a space where clients feel seen, heard, and respected. I support each client’s dignity by listening without judgment, asking culturally responsive questions, and avoiding assumptions. I also understand that multicultural competence is ongoing, so I seek supervision, consultation, training, and self-reflection to strengthen my ethical practice.   I recognize that my own cultural identity, values, and lived experiences influence how I understand and relate to others. Because of this, I practice ongoing self-awareness and work to avoid imposing my beliefs on clients. I center the client’s worldview, goals, strengths, and autonomy while remaining mindful of power, privilege, oppression, discrimination, and systemic barriers. I believe culturally responsive counseling requires personal accountability, ethical responsibility, and a willingness to receive feedback and continue learning.   Personally, I see this work as essential to becoming an ethical and effective clinician. I want clients to experience therapy as a place where their identities are respected and understood. I know I will continue to grow, and I value reflection, supervision, and education as part of that process. My goal is to remain grounded in empathy, cultural humility, and advocacy so I can provide inclusive and responsive care.
